Certified arborist Mark Chisholm, took several GoPro cameras with him to document the tree removal process during a recent job at Princeton University. The project site was previously a student housing complex (2 large apartment buildings) and is being re-developed into a more modern one. The design process included a detailed condition assessment of each tree and many design decisions were made specifically with trees in mind. The design team was directed to maximize the number of existing trees retained on site. The "Project Arborist" on the design team (Davey Resource Group) was directly involved in the design process and produced detailed tree preservation plans for the project. Several less common and more "extreme" methods were used to help protect and retain trees on the project. An ongoing management plan for the remaining trees is in place for the duration of construction. The trees being removed now were damaged by hurricane Sandy. All the trees on site were re-assessed by me after the storm and recommendations were made for removals and pruning. Those recommendations were reviewed and approved by the township and then we contracted the work.
